The Public Policy Hub (PPH) at the University of Pretoria has joined the Sustainable Development Goals Initiative (SDGi) as a new partner. Over the next two years, PPH will work with the Presidency’s Policy and Research Services (PRS) branch and selected municipalities to support the customisation and uptake of the Socio-Economic Impact Assessment System (SEIAS) at local government level.

On 10 and 11 June 2026, the Policy and Research Services branch and the Policy Innovation Lab convened a policy dialogue on strengthening policy advice through effective policy briefs. Set against the backdrop of South Africa’s economic diplomacy in an era of geopolitical uncertainty, the dialogue explored how evidence-informed, people-centred and concise policy briefs can better support government decision-making through practical, actionable recommendations.

The Sustainable Development Goals Initiative (SDGi) demonstrates what collaboration between government, academia, and civil society can achieve, building a strong foundation for evidence-informed policy-making and advancing South Africa’s development agenda as it enters its second phase.
