Introducing the Sustainable Development Goals Initiative

The Sustainable Development Goals Initiative (SDGi) represents a dynamic partnership between The Presidency of South Africa, University of Pretoria, Stellenbosch University, African Monitor, and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

SDGi’s key objective is to improve the institutional conditions for evidence-informed policy-making in South Africa, ultimately supporting sustainable development and advancing social cohesion.

SDGi aims to:

Provide evidence for policy decisions
Strengthen policy impact assessments
Advance inclusive dialogues on prioritised policy areas
Leverage data through digital tools and responsible AI

SDGi Transition Event: From SDGi I to SDGi II

The Sustainable Development Goals Initiative (SDGi) demonstrates what collaboration between government, academia, and civil society can achieve, building a strong foundation for evidence-informed policy-making and advancing South Africa’s development agenda as it enters its second phase.

State Capacity Report supported by the SDGi sparks high-level Roundtable by The Presidency

The Roundtable on Strengthening the Political-Administrative Interface, hosted by The Presidency in partnership with the SDGi, brought together senior government leaders and experts to reflect on practical steps for building a more capable, ethical and evidence-informed state.

Strengthening partnerships at the bi-annual SDGi Meeting of Partners

The SDG Initiative (SDGi) successfully convened its partners in Johannesburg, reviewing key progress and setting actionable goals for the year ahead. The meeting highlighted collaborative efforts, featuring valuable insights from the National School of Government, and the launch of the SDGi website.
